Salah During Travel (Qasr) | Qasr prayer while traveling?

Advice while traveling (Qasr) | Shortening and Combining Prayers While Travelling (Qasr Salat)

It is compulsory for Muslims to offer Namaz 5 times a day. However, Allah has allowed His servants to reduce their prayers while traveling.

Salah During Travel (Qasr) |  Qasr prayer while traveling?

1- Why should Qasr prayer be offered during the journey?

The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) said,

"Surely, Allah wants you to ask for His favors, just as He does not want you to be disobedient." (Musnad Ahmad: 5832)

The shortening of prayers is mentioned in the Qur'an and confirms the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.):

"And when you travel across the country, there is no blame on you for reducing prayer" (Quran 4:101, An-Nasai: 457)

Therefore, for travellers, it is permissible to reduce the prayer of 4 rak'ahs to only 2 rak'ahs (i.e. only the fard prayers of Dhuhr, Asr and Isha Salah).

2- Opinions of different fiqhs:

According to Imam Shafi'i (RA) and Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (RA), shortening the prayer is not obligatory but only optional. However, it is better to shorten it.

Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) considers it obligatory (wajib) to 'reduce the prayer' during travel.

3- Conditions of Qasr:

Travel distance

According to Imam Abu Hanifa, the minimum required distance for a person to be considered a traveler is when he intends to travel 48 miles (about 80 kilometers) from his watan-i-ali (original hometown).

Imam Shafi'i, Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal and Imam Malik covered this distance of about 55 miles (about 88 km).

When a person leaves the city limits and re-enters the city limits, the prayer starts to decrease.

From three days to four and fifteen days, there is a lot of difference of opinion among the scholars on this subject.

Passenger-status intending to stay at the point of arrival for the following periods:

less than fifteen (15) days [Hanafi]

Less than four (4) days [Hanbali, Maliki and Shafi'i'] - (arrival and departure days not included)

4- How to do Taksir (shortening the prayer):

During the journey, only 4 rakats of Wajib Namaz ie Zuhr, Asr and Isha Qasr have to be performed. Travelers should offer 2 rak'ahs instead of 4 rak'ahs of the above prayers.

But 2 rak'ahs of Fajr and 3 rak'ahs of Maghrib must be completed completely because you cannot cut 2 or 3 rak'ahs of fard prayer in half.

When you were on a journey, the Prophet (SAW) compulsorily performed the Isha prayer along with 2 Sunnahs of Fajr prayer and 3 rak'ahs of Witr. That's why both of these should be offered during the journey.

Remember that these rules are only for the person who is traveling and doing the personal prayer. If a traveler is praying with the congregation, he should follow the Imam and offer the entire prayer.
